Beginning Ballroom

Prerequisite: None

Boys Needed! In Social Dance you will learn the basic steps (Bronze level) to 4 different ballroom dances each semester. These will include the Cha Cha, Waltz, Foxtrot, Samba, Mambo, Triple Swing, Rumba, and some Line Dances!! It is a great class to meet new people, and have fun learning partner dancing! It is also a great preparatory class for anyone who is interested in trying out for the Ballroom Dance Team! Girls- It would be great if you could find a male partner for this class, but it is not required!!

Female Body Toning

Prerequisite: None
Required Materials: One good pair of athletic type shoes, (cross trainers preferred , shorts or sweats, and T-shirt, and willingness to work hard.)

This class is offered to any female 9-12 grade. It is designed specifically to help girls tone their bodies, increase lean body mass, lose fat (and inches), and learn about proper nutrition. Emphasis is given to weight training plus aerobic activities such as jogging, cross-training, step aerobics, circuit, interval and weight/resistance training, proper stretching and cooling down. Grading is based on participation, 1 ½ mile run times (improvement and effort), written and fitness tests, nutrition assignments, and one project or report per semester.

Female Weights

Required Materials: Athletic shoes

This class will follow a weight training program specifically designed to help young women gain muscle strength, explosiveness and speed. Emphasis is given to running, (cardiovascular training) weight training, and endurance. Students will receive knowledge in proper lifting technique, plyometrics training, stretching, and nutrition to enhance athletic performance.

Male Weight Training

Prerequisite: None

This class will follow a weight-training program specifically designed to develop overall strength, explosiveness and speed. This course will also help develop and increase muscle definition, endurance, and cardiovascular training. Students will receive knowledge in proper lifting technique, plyometric training, stretching, and nutrition to enhance athletic performance.

Advanced Strength and Conditioning

Prerequisite: None

This class is offered for male students. The class is offered every day and is designed to have students weight train for one half of the period and participate in team or sport specific physical education the other half of the hour. Emphasis will be placed on cardiovascular and strength training. This class is for those who have taken the regular weight training course and succeeded with a grade of 85% or better. This course elevates the cardiovascular training and is advanced in all aspects of strength and conditioning.

Prerequisite: Must be chosen by audition to participate in REDS.

Shelley High School’s Performance Dance Team! A year round dance team that uses dance and team participation as a method of garnering self-esteem and self worth. Emphasizes the importance of teamwork, discipline, and respect to facilitate an atmosphere of pride and positive growth. Learning how to dance and teaching the basic/advanced dance methods for team and individual success and accomplishments. This is a FUN competitive dance team, which requires hard work and dedication.

Cheerleading A-B

Full Year Class
Prerequisite: Chosen for squad at previous spring try-outs.
Required Materials: Cheer shoes and P.E. clothes.

This course is intended to be the cheer squad practice time. Students are expected to dress down daily and participate in stunting, dances, and cheers.
